Long jump

A jump in track and field that is made for distance rather than height, performed either from a stationary position or from a moving start is known as long jump30. It is an event in which contestants take turns jumping for distance, after a running start, usually into a long pit of sand. The long jump is an athletics (track and field) event in which athletes combine speed, strength, and agility in an attempt to leap as far from the take-off point as possible. In long jump two to five units comprise a long jump. The units are placed in ascending order. The lowest unit at the front: the height: 15 cm. Height of the highest unit: 28 cm. Depth of each unit: 15 cm, rising in height. The athlete dashes along a runway and springs into the air from a takeoff board attempting to covering the greatest possible distance.

High jump

High jump is a jump for height made over a horizontal bar in a track-and-field contest. The equipment includes a semicircular runway allowing an approach run of at least 49 ft (15 m), the raised bar and its vertical supports, and a cushioned landing area. Jumpers must leave the ground from one foot. Three failed jumps at a height result in disqualification. Early jumping styles, including the near-erect scissors jump and the facedown Western roll-and-straddle, were largely superseded from 1968 by the faceup "Fosbury flop," named for its leading proponent, the U.S. jumper Dick Fosbury. The high jump is a track and field athletics event in which competitors must jump over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without the aid of certain devices in its modern most practiced format; auxiliary weights and mounds have been used for assistance; rules have changed over the years.

Snooker

A billiards game, played on a special table covered with baize, with one white cue ball, 15 red balls and 6 balls of various colours (the 'colours') is known as Snooker. It is particularly popular in Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia and India. There has recently been a surge of interest in East Asia, with players from Thailand, Hong Kong and China entering the rankings. The intention of the game is to score points by causing the red and coloured balls to be played into the pockets along the edge of the table (in all 4 corners and the middle of each of the long cushions). The game of billiards dates back to the 15th century, but snooker is a more recent invention. In the late 19th century, billiards games were popular among British army officers stationed in India, and players used to experiment with variations on the game of snooker.

Hockey

A game played on ice in which two opposing teams of skaters, using curved sticks, try to drive a puck into the opponent's goal is hockey. Game is played on an ice rink by two teams of six players on skates. The object is to drive a puck (a small, hard rubber disk) into the opponents' goal with a hockey stick, thus scoring one point. A game consists of three 20-minute periods. The first true ice-hockey game was played in 1875 between two student teams at Montreal's McGill University. The National Hockey League, consisting of U.S. and Canadian professional teams, was organized in 1917. It is a very aggressive game, and the puck is often taken from a player by means of a hit to the body, called a check. Some contact, such as checking from behind and slashing with the stick, is illegal and draws a penalty.

Swimming

Swimming is the method by which humans (or other animals) move themselves through water. Swimming is a popular recreational activity, particularly in hot countries and in areas with natural watercourses. Swimming is also a competitive sport. There are many health benefits of swimming, yet basic swimming skills and safety precautions are needed to participate in water activities. The human body, being composed mostly of water, has nearly the same density as water. Thus, staying afloat requires only a slight propelling of water downward relative to the body, and transverse motion only a slight propelling of water in a direction opposite to the direction of motion, due to generally low hydrodynamic drag. This propelling is typically accomplished by cupping the hands and using them as paddles, and by kicking the legs to push water away from the body. With practice, technique can convert a slow swimmer to at least fast swimmer.

Golf

A game played on a large outdoor course with a series of 9 or 18 holes spaced far apart, the object being to propel a small, hard ball with the use of various clubs into each hole with as few strokes as possible is known as golf. It is a game in which a small, white ball is struck with wooden or metal-headed clubs over a course of usu. Eighteen holes placed at some distance from one another around natural or artificial obstacles, the object being to sink the ball into each successive hole in as few strokes as possible. The origins of the game are difficult to ascertain, although evidence now suggests that early forms of golf were played in the Netherlands first and then in Scotland. Golf is generally regarded as a gentle aerobic activity that does not require superb fitness to play and various techniques also.

Cricket

An outdoor game played with bats, a ball, and wickets by two teams of 11 players each is known as cricket.A dynamic team sport characterized by short bursts of activity punctuated by irregular periods of inactivity. It is often assumed that you do not have to be very fit to play cricket. This is a misconception. Fast bowlers, batsmen running between the wickets, and fielders chasing a ball have to be able to move suddenly, extremely quickly, and powerfully for brief amounts of time. This pattern of inactivity followed by dynamic movement carries a high risk of injury. Fast bowlers are particularly vulnerable if they are unfit or if their running and bowling technique is poor.117 Injuries of the shoulders, back, knees, and ankles are common. The risk of injury can be reduced if players are in good physical condition; if they warm up and perform stretching exercises before playing.24; and if they keep mobile during periods of relative inactivity.

Volleyball

A game played by two teams on a rectangular court divided by a high net, in which both teams use up to three hits to ground the ball on the opposing team's side of the net is known as volleyball. The inflated, spherical ball used in this game. Each team tries to make the ball touch the court within the opposing side's playing areas before it can be returned. A team is allowed to touch the ball three times before returning it. The team that first scores 15 points wins the game. Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan in Holyoke, Mass. It soon proved to have wide appeal for both sexes in schools, playgrounds, the armed forces, and other settings. International competition began in 1913, and volleyball became an Olympic sport in 1964. Beach volleyball, a variation with two players on a side, has grown increasingly popular.

Basketball

A game played between two teams of five players each, the object being to throw a ball through an elevated basket on the opponent's side of a rectangular court is known as basketball. Players may move the ball by dribbling or passing with the hands. The inflated, spherical ball is used in this game. They score by tossing, or "shooting," an inflated ball through a raised hoop, or "basket," located in their opponent's end of the court. A goal is worth two points, three if shot from outside a specified limit. A player who is fouled (through unwarranted physical contact) by another is awarded one to three free-throw attempts (depending on the circumstances of the foul). A successful free throw is worth one point. The first Olympic of basketball contest was held in 1936, and the (FIBA) introduced world championships for men and women in 1950 and 1953, respectively.

Football

Any of various games played with a ball (round or oval) in which two teams try to kick or carry or propel the ball into each other's goal is known as football game. Football is the name of several similar team sports, all with similar origins which involve, to varying degrees, kicking a ball with the foot in an attempt to score a goal. The most popular of these sports worldwide is association football, more commonly known as just "football" or "soccer". An association football pitch (also known as a football pitch, football field or soccer field) is the playing surface for the game of association football made of turf. Its dimensions and markings are defined by Law 1 of the Laws of the Game, "The Field of Play". The English language word football may mean any one of several team sports depending on the national or regional origin.
